As part of a $3 million donation effort across all Sprouts Farmers Market locations in the United States, TVUSD Garden Teacher Deb Goepfrich received a $10,000 grant on Saturday, Sept. 6, from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation.
Ms. Goepfrich applied for and was awarded this grant to expand the Outdoor Learning Program at the Agua Caliente Elementary School garden. The funding will support programming for students in grades 4–6, the construction of an outdoor kitchen space, and the purchase of food prep equipment and supplies for cooking lessons featuring produce grown in the school garden.
The grant also includes a teacher stipend to lead a weekly extracurricular culinary class for students in grades 4–6 and provides funds for professional development at the Sprouts Growing School Gardens Summit in Phoenix this coming February.
Nationwide, more than 550 nonprofit partners received funding from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation to support programs that provide children and adults with access to nutrition education, gardening, cooking classes, and other resources promoting healthier living.
